Long runs using RG6 cable information

Audio or Video Cable - Long runs using RG6 cable

Today, long runs of audio or video cable throughout a home or to a satellite dish location is common.  For example,  your customer is trying to run an audio path from their satellite receiver to a stereo or surround sound receiver inside their home.  Sometimes this may require very long cable run depending on the desired location of the equipment.

It is acceptable to use RG6 cable for this application.  This cable is ideal to run audio or video paths from room to room or throughout a home.  The cable itself is as good or equivalent to a quality home theatre A/V cable.

The trick is how do you connect it to your components?  Your satellite and home theatre receivers use RCA-type connectors.  Therefore you will need to convert the “F”-type connector on the RG6 coaxial cable to an RCA-type connector.

In such cases, use Omega Part # OV517 (“F”-type to RCA-type connector adapter). This adapter screws into the coax “F” connector and instantly converts it to an RCA connector. You may also convert the cable directly to RCA-type termination using Omega Part # 81512246 (RCA-type compression connector for RG6). Both connectors allow you have a long run of low cost, highly effective, home theatre audio or video.

Important installation note for long runs of RG6
In order to avoid signal loss, installation of cable runs which exceed 100" in length should use Omega Part # 81511305  (In-line satellite signal amplifier) to ensure proper signal strength and integrity at the end of the cable run.

Suggested Omega Parts
Omega Part # OV517      (“F”-type to RCA-type connector adapter)
Omega Part # 81512246  (RCA-type compression connector for RG6)
Omega Part # 81511305  (In-line satellite signal amplifier)

S-Video Signals  - Long cable runs using RG6 CABLE

S-Video signals may also be run over long distances by using utilizing RG6 cable terminated with RCA-type or "F"-type connectors and Omega's S-Video adapters.

•    Run the RG6 cable between the two points you wish to connect (e.g. between a video projector and a DVD player).
•    Terminate the cable with compression "F"-type (Omega part # 81511717) or RCA-type (Omega Part # 81512246) connectors.
•    Select the appropriate S-Video adapter for both ends of the cable, depending on which terminating connector you have chosen and the units being hooked up.

Suggested S-Video Adapter Omega Parts
